L26 Class News December 2013

Dear L26 Owners, Class Members and Friends

With the end of 2013 fast approaching, we have some great news to share with you to end off the year.

Lipton Cup 2014
Dates are confirmed for Friday 22 – Friday 29 August at False Bay Yacht Club – and all the Race Documents have been released much earlier than usual to allow clubs and their teams to prepare in good time.
We Attach:
Notice of Contest
Formal Notice of Entry
All other race documents can be downloaded off the home page of
We believe the 2014 Challenge could be the best ever with 40 boats on the water – so if you haven’t started planning your challenge, now’s the time!

Class Fees
The following proposal and motivation was voted on via the website, email voting and at the SGM on Monday 2 December at 18h00 at RCYC:
The Annual Subscription will be R200 with effect from 1 January 2014.  A 50% discount will apply to members whose subscription is paid on time in terms of paragraph 6.2 of the Constitution i.e. by 31 January.  A 50% discount will also apply to new members who join the Association during the last quarter of the year.  For the purpose of this discount a new member is one who has not been a member for the previous two years..
The motivation for this proposal was that our honorary secretary has had to spend an inordinate amount of time chasing members for overdue subscriptions and arranging last minute membership on the eve of various regattas.  This is unfair and unsustainable, and we hope the proposed subscription structure will help minimise this unproductive work.
We received 11 email votes, 3 votes on the website and 9 votes at the SGM, all unanimously in favour of the proposal, which was duly carried.
We will remind you to pay your class fees in the new year and send you all the documentation.

Class Rules Revision
Further to our Class President Dave Hudson’s letter earlier in the year, we are working on a class rules revision which we hope to be able to share with you and vote on during the first quarter of 2014. Please remember to call or email Dave or Kirsten with any rule you would like to see revised or clarified, and also with the details of any boat you have reason to believe does not comply and that you would like the Technical Committee to review.

In closing, we wish you a blessed and restful Festive Season with your families and friends, and a fantastic New Year. Our very best wishes to you all for a safe and successful 2014, and we look forward to some great L26 sailing!

Best wishes,
Your L26 Owners’ Association Exc
